Today’s much anticipated “State of the Nation” address will be the last one before the Nation goes to the polls.

This evening, the Right Honourable Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia, will report to the Rakyat, the development of the Government Transformation Program (GTP) which includes the seven National Key Results Area (NKRA) involving the Cost of Living, Crime Rate, Fighting Corruption, Improving Student Outcomes, Raising Living Standards of Low-Income Households, Improving Rural Basic Infrastructure and Improving Urban Public Transport.

Generally without even having to hear the Prime Minister tonight, the public at large should have already witnessed some of the achievements of the NKRA to date.

Today, Malaysians can afford goods and services of better quality. Destitution is wiped out and the low-income households have received direct aide, which is something that has never been seen in the history of this Nation.

We are much safer than we were 5 years ago, albeit the fear still remain for some, but with the reinforcement of security personnel in high-risk areas and good co-operation between the public and the police force, the crime rate has declined significantly.

Corruption is reduced and recognized by international bodies from what we’ve read in the news. Examples to substantiate this, is the vast increase in the frequencies of summons being issued over the last year in my observation and personal hits on me ( being flagged down) by the traffic cops, and number of arrest cases brought to trial seen in media reports.

The quality of education has improved in addition to providing skills to make them more useful for the market beyond our shores.

A large number of affordable housing has been introduced and launched with keys presented to buyers and tenants in the past years. More roads have been built with utilities being upgraded and given provision to the target areas.

From what we have gathered so far, we’ve seen an almost 50% rise in the Gross National Income from USD 6, 700 in 2009 to USD 9, 970 in 2012. All things being equal, and with the will of God, we will hit the USD 15, 000 GNI per capita target even before the 2020 deadline. Our Gross Domestic Product (GDP), rose 5.6 percent compared to Singapore’s 1.3 percent, doing better than South Korea which contracted by 2% and Taiwan 1.25%.

These Are Two Safe Indicators To Determine The Direction Of Our Economy And Our “Bull’s Eye” On A Developed Status By 2020.
